Setting Up Google Analytics

What is Google Analytics

Google analytics is a free service that helps you identify:

  • Keywords
  • Advertisements
  • Referrals
  • Campaigns

It gives you the information so that you can;

  • Write better ads
  • Strengthen your marketing initiatives
  • Create higher converting websites
  • Overall it allows you to test and measure, to know what is working and when you make a change whether that change creates an improvement or not.

To set it up:

  1. Go to www.google.com/analytics/ and click on "Sign Up Now"
  2. Follow the sign up process and add your website.
  3. At the end of the setup process, you should have some code that they need you to copy into every page of your site. As the system is so stream-lined, you only need to copy a portion of the code into that back end of thewebconsole.com. The code looks something like "UA-1280345-7".
  4. Log into www.thewebconsole.com and navigate to"Settings" link on the top right hand side, select the "Website Settings drop down" from the left side menu and then select SEO.
  5. Place the UA code into the field called "Google analytics code" and click on "Save SEO Settings".
  6. You will now need to alert Google that the code has been added to your site so they can start collecting information, to do this you need  to go back into your google analytics account and click on the "Check Status", which is highlighted inside a pink box.
